SEO Trends, Stickiness and Increasing Followers With Your Blog.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

The search engine optimized, sticky, content-rich, focused blog gathers the most followers. Here are the rules for building your "best-reach, longest potency" articles. Your visitors (both recurring and unique) and traffic will increase dramatically and rapidly if you simply don't tamper with the following proven formula.

Frequency:

You should write an entry at least once weekly.

Length:

The ideal length is generally between 3 to a maximum of 11 paragraphs; each of which should be short and punchy. Wherever possible, create simple lists, either bulletized or numbered. People love lists, rankings, trends, statistics and factoids.

Subject:

Be consistent in terms of the area or field you write about or focus upon. Build your reputation this way. Become known as a thought-leader or expert. Write with some passion, or don't write at all.

Title:

The title must be keyword stuffed within its first 120 characters.

First Paragraph:

The first paragraph should also be keyword-stuffed, but with a synopsis of why the article is important (its possible benefits) to the reader.

Closing:

Always use your full name or pseudonym {with a hyperlink to a site which contains your curriculum vitae or biography) and cite the name of your blog (hyperlinked to your blogsite address). If you write a smaller-fonted "p.s." section immediately beneath your signature closing, it will always be read. If you write your p.s. in a different font and/or color, you increase the likelihood of getting it great attention.

Your article is a sandwich -- from top to bottom it is:
  • Keyword-stuffed title;
  • Keyword-stuffed first paragraph with a synopsis of why the article id important;
  • Your content (which should be laced with in-text hyperlinked references);
  • Your closing;
  • Your p.s. message.
If you choose to add pictures, that's always acceptable, but they should not be overly large, and you should not have more than one image for every 3 to 5 paragraphs at maximum. Images should be centered, or set off to the left side of your posting field. Use unique and exciting images, wherever possible.

Do not use flashing images in your article -- they distract and disturb readers, and they also tend to draw the focus away from your content. Be certain that the important elements of your article (down to and including your closing) do not require scrolling on the part of your reader -- keep your best substance "above the fold" to the greatest extent possible. If your writing a long post, warn your readers (apologetically) about their having to scroll further.

As for additional tips, try these:

1) Put together your own list (in small font) of "Labels, Tags, Keywords, Categories and Search Terms" after your p.s., and hyperlink those all to your blog's url, or any other url which you wish to build in terms of traffic.

2) After your list of "Labels, Tags, Keywords...etc." list hyperlinked titles to several "related articles" by authors other than yourself if the reader chooses to go further with his or her investigation or study of your topic.

3) Be certain that your blog sends out an RSS feed (I use Feedburner), and that every new article is "pinged" to all of the relevant search engines. For this, I recommend that you Pinglerize -- that is, subscrible to the Pingler service immediately...go to (click on):
http://freetoolsforwebmastersandbloggers.wordpress.com/2011/06/15/ping-to-increase-your-seo-and-blog-traffic/.

Their service is unbelieveably cheap and the best in the marketplace - they have a package where they will automatically ping up to 50 blogs (yours!) as frequently as every three days to well in excess of 100 excellent search engines.

Faithfully,

Douglas E. Castle, from Blogging Tips, Tricks and Tools.

Bloggers: Google Is Not Your Master!

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Dear Bloggers, Both Accomplished and Aspiring:

GOOGLE is not your master. If you re-construct your blog posts and re-format all of your work to "Search Engine Optimize" you blogs, you are probably also accomplishing the following dubious objectives:

1) Creating awkward "word salad" that doesn't reflect the way you think or write naturally.

2) Compromising your brilliant vocabulary and "dumbing down" your clever expressions to imbecilic "Keywords."

3) Putting your blog's quality on a par with that of everyone else's. Instead of rising up the ranks, you are putting yourself in the same cinderblock cell as your would-be competition.

4) Losing your natural readers - those people who read your posts because of their subject, style and personality...while gaining a few "visits" from sightseers who will not be impressed with your stilted style and lack of originality.

5) Contributing toward society's decline toward complete superficiality and illiteracy [and I'm an optimist!].

You are the master of your mind, and how you express your unique thoughts.

Faithfully, and In Fellowship,

Douglas Castle

Blogging With Integrity.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Blogging With Integrity

Dear Bloggers, Bloggerettes, Blogmeisters, Blogblitzers and Mortals:

The fact is, when you blog with integrity (authenticity, passion, originality, personality and frequency), you will likely attract more readers.

1. Write about what interests YOU.

2. Write about it from your own point of view.

3. Write the way you would speak with a friend -- use your own words (try, however, for more than one syllable per word on the average).

4. If you feel strongly or passionately about your topic, let it out. Rave. Cry. Shout. Denounce. Support. Be emotional. Use your metaphorical heart as well as your wonderful mind. Be a PERSON with a PERSONALITY.

5. Write as frequently as you can. Your articles don't have to be long, but put a gold nugget into each one -- even if the whole post is merely one paragraph in length. Don't let your readers think that you have lost interest in them.

Get blogging!

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Communicating With Pictures - Visual Stimuli

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

'nuf said, Bloggers!

Communicating With Pictures - Visual Stimuli

Your readers LOVE visual stimuli. A picture (especially one that is well-captioned) can be worth somewhere between 140 characters and a thousand words.

On a serious note, they make your posts more memorable, more likely to be forwarded or re-published, and more likely to be preferentially-referenced on the almighty search engines.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Blogging 101 - Post, Or They'll Be Mad At You.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

From Blogging Tips, Tricks And Tools

Blogging 101 - Post, Or They'll Be Mad At You.

Dear Reader:

If you already a brilliant and successful blogger (whatever that actually means), you might just skip this article. If your are either a neophyte or a lover of learning, then please read on.

Welcome!

This is my first post on this new (just cut the ribbon!) blog, but we can celebrate later.

I'll offer you some very important advice:

If you don't post to your blog at least once per week...

1. You will not get a following, unless you are already famous;

2. Even if you have a following, they will think that you have either died, lost interest in your topic, or  -- worst of all -- abandoned them! They will abandon your blog, as well.

Even if you don't have something absolutely Earth-shatteringly newsworthy to write about, show your readers that you have not abandoned them. Just a few words will sometimes suffice.

If you are not particularly creative, here are some helpful examples:

  • I've been remiss in my blogging - but I've just had surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, and I will post a scan of a note from my orthopedic surgeon;

  • I have had a terrible bout with writer's block. I am hoping that the new medications that my doctor prescribed for this will take effect very soon;

  • I've finally gotten up the courage to leave my wife (husband, partner, significant other...) - as soon as I get settled in my new hovel, I will be writing again;

  • My roommate's pet anaconda ate my laptop, and we had to strain his (the anaconda's - not my roommate's) feces until it finally came out. I might have lost some files;

  • While I was flying over the Bermuda Triangle on the way to visit a friend in Guantanamo, my notebook suddenly vaporized. I swear to you. It did. My watch stopped, too;

  • I am an opportunist. I will not be posting to this blog, but my Blogger domain name is for sale. Would you like to buy the rights to this blog domain?

  • Why should I write? Nobody seems to be reading this anyway. If you want me to continue posting, get at least a hundred friends together and sign a petition promising that you'll all read my blog faithfully each week. Email it to me at the address below.
Bottom Line: Post weekly (or weakly), but keep posting!

At very least, Interpol and the NSA are reading your material. That's a start.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Special Rhetorical Question:

p.s. How come all of the people on TV and in the movies have telephone numbers with a "555" exchange (except for Satan, who has a "666" exchange)?
