Smart Websites and Smart Blogs: Comply With The Law and Best Practices.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Dear Fellow Bloggers (and Website Owners):

For every business of every size, your planning, your presentation and your conduct is governed by some set of laws, regulations and actual quality standards. This is not to intimidate you. It is to inform you.

1.If your website or blog has an advice orientation, be certain that you have your overpriced and seldom-available attorney include (let him or her draft it for you, word for word, and save the invoice) the necessary exculpatory language and on your blog and posts (as necessary) to avoid a litigious reader who takes your advice and winds up claiming injury or loss...and wants to either take you to court (i.e., the cleaners), or to prison (so that you may help feed a thriving American industry).

2. Have your attorney review your blogs and websites for compliance with regulations and laws at frequent intervals.

3. Constantly puruse the websites and blogsites of the best publishers that you can find to look for formatting, compliance and other trends. This bit of research will not only provide you with some great ideas, but it will give you insight into current "best practices" in webbery and bloggery.

Now...entrepreners, e-commerce folk, granstanders and other writers with passion, purpose and a growing audience, please read on, and take what is being said quite seriously:

Respectfully, and in friendship,

Douglas Castle

  • Website pitfalls that could land your company in court
Maintaining a website is essential for any business that hopes to compete in the 21st century, but ensuring that it's up to snuff requires more than just making sure all the links work, Bill Baker writes. Baker offers advice to protect your business: Make sure you regularly update your website's privacy policy, take a hands-off approach to your site's comments page and consult a lawyer before you launch a mobile application.
