Bloggers: Simple, Free, One-Step Javascripts -- Just Copy and Paste.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

To make your blog more exciting, more marketable, and better-positioned amongst the search engines [higher search engine rankings through SEO], you need some javascript.

Special effects (involving text font, size, color and other glowing, throbbing, or typing simulations, scrolling copy, colors changing, moving images, buttons, built-in gadgets and widgets) will support increased traffic to your blog, increased backlinks, increased leads [whether you are marketing a newsletter, membership subscriptions, a product, a service or a book...even if your blog is e-commerce-oriented] ) will increase the appeal, stickiness and length of the average visit to your site. Your blog will look more professional, with fantastic results, and your effort will be minimal.

Most free javascript resource sites are designed for websites and require a bit of dabbling about in the netherworld of your template, or inserting different bits of code in either the head or body of your blog. I would just as soon perform cardiac surgery on myself with a salad fork.

There is, however, one site where you can get terrific javascript which can simply copy and paste right onto your blog (in the HTML "zones") or even, in some cases, into your posts.

The site is http://www.javascriptfreecode.com/index.htm, and it is the greatest mini-utility ever created for bloggers who enjoy writing but do not want to 1) learn to do any coding or programming at all, and 2) don't want have to run crying to some neighborhood know-it-all, some "geeks for hire" service (those folks are incredible, but not always the best company), or, worst of all, strike a deal with a webmaster to upgrade, manage or otherwise fool with your blog -- often at great expense.

http://www.javascriptfreecode.com/index.htm is the best quick-code-in-a-flash fix. I would suggest that you visit the site, look over the entire menu of "special effects," and then chose one or two to put into the HTML zones of your Blogger or WordPress blogs. Experiment a bit.

While the menu of scripts is limited, they are almost all functional, and they are almost all completely ready to simply copy and paste.

They do ask that you give them some honorable mention on your blog, but it is unobtrusive, and actually kind of cute. I'll  give them some credit. Watch closely:

JavaScript Free Code

That's pretty much all that there is to it. Enjoy it and spread the word to all of the other bloggers out there. Our numbers are growing!

To the blogosphere....and beyond!

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

Blogging - Choose The Best Blogging Platform (Or Several)

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Entrepreneurs, Webmasters and Bloggers - Which Blogging Platform Is Best For You?

It's an issue that must be addressed: If you sell a product, provide a service, run an e-commerce site or moderate an interactive forum, you have a choice of blogging platforms. These include Blogger, WordPress, Typepad and a number of others.
Blogger is the easiest to use, is completely modularized, but does not offer much in the way of service to SEO and publicize (or to otherwise enrich) your blog and posts. But then, being a cynic, I believe that since Blogger is owned by Google (as are many blogging accessories, applications and tools), that Google might secretly have a bit of extra juice programmed into its ranking algorithm (which is as secret as the Coca Cola recipe) which favors the .blogspot (Blogger) crowd. By the way, here's some interesting trivia -- while I cannot give you the recipe for Coca Cola, I can say that the recipe for Dr. Pepper is identical to the one for Coca Cola, with the addtion of one ingredient -- and that ingredient is prune juice. Hence the unofficial nickname for the beverage: "Dr. Pooper."
Their Blogger templates are limited, they have a knack for freezing up just before you've saved or published your post, so that you must back up your work, and they are not too friendly in terms of snagging graphics, weird fonts and hyperlinks from the other media which you may to choose to copy and paste from. Their "outages" are quite frequent.
WordPress is a bit tougher to use (at first), but it gives you a website-quality blog, with all of the bells and whistles you could want. It will even suggest informational in-text hyperlinks, tags, and connect you seamlessly with social media.
It has many "automatic content enhancers" and helpful tools that make a much fancier blog post quite simple to produce, once you've gotten the hang of using the Wordpress platform. WordPress is ideal for copying and pasting material from other media in direct, "true" form -- this includes everything from website excerpts, graphics, emails, MS Word files, spreadsheets and charts. Blogger does not generally let you embed forms and tables as easily as does WordPress, so you invariably find yourself playing McGyver (however he spells it) and creating workarounds. Some folks like this -- I don't, and I believe that those people who do should either be institutionalized or come to work for TNNWC.

Comments and inbound hyperlinks are much more "attracted" to WordPress, and WordPress has built in tools to encourage more vigorous sharing, forwarding and interaction. WordPress does not have as many "technical timeouts" as Blogger, and it is easier to save and edit your drafts.
I use both Blogger and WordPress. I have toyed around a bit with Typepad, but it seems to be running a distant third in this platform popularity contest, and I am content with my back and forth mix of Blogger and WordPress, at least for the present; then again, it may also be possible that my brain is now at full capacity, and that I don't have any place to store any newly-acquired knowledge intracranially at all.
I am writing this article on WordPress at this time, because Blogger is "having some trouble." Alas. I have copied a recently BLOGGER STATUS chronology (a litany of notifications, apologies, and excuses), starting from today (05.13.2011) on backwards in recent history. I used a clever workaround to accomplish this. I also used the color maroon for angry emphasis...

Postmortem for Blogger Service Interruption on March 16 By Jinwoo Lee, Blogger Software Engineer.
As we committed to you, when serious service interruptions occur we will provide you details about what went wrong and what we’re doing to help prevent similar problems in the future.
From about 9:55 AM PDT until about 10:20 AM on Wednesday, March 16, all Blogger users were unable to access the Blogger dashboard page at www.blogger.com and draft.blogger.com. No data was lost and Blogspot was not affected at all, so your blog’s readers weren’t impacted.
We made brief status updates on our Twitter accountthis and this. Meanwhile, we kept a close eye on the reports coming through our help forum and Twitter stream.
The problem was caused by human error. We wanted to show a small announcement on the Blogger dashboard and our code for it had a bug, which caused the problem. Once we figured this out, we quickly reverted the change.
We are truly sorry for any inconveniences this might have caused you. In the meantime, we will try harder to make Blogger a more reliable service.

We're currently working through multiple issues which are affecting the reliability of our comment system. We'll update this post as soon as we have more information to share.
Thanks for your patience in the meantime.
Update: This has been resolved.

[Note by Douglas Castle regarding above "Blogger Chronology": Please bear in mind that there are actually numerous mini-outages or short-term catastrophes which occur at least once weekly on Blogger which are not mentioned on the above list. Happily, these are usually mere inconveniences, and will not cause a loss of data or any irreversible damage which will force you to re-post]

Entrepreneurial, Business and Social Blogging - The Three Most Important Parts

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

You must blog, or have someone blog for you. Blogs carry more influence and credibility than websites. If you have a website, you may want to complement it with several blogs, as well.
If you are blogging, you are doing it to get a message across, or to incite thought (from allies, kindred spirits, possible connections), or to send out a call to action.

The three most important parts of every one of your blog postings are:

1) The Title - Get your most important search words out first, and then add your wit or other refinement secondly;

2) Your first paragraph - It should be a keyword-laden synopsis of what makes the post so important, who should be reading it, and what it will be about -- either a summary or a teaser;

3) The p.s. - The end of your blog, after you sign off, may contain some small "p.s." in italics... your readers will pay more attention to this little section with some afterthought or words of wisdom than the entire midsection of your clever blog.

Lastly, although it is not the subject of this post, pictures are wonderful when you integrate them into your blog. They are eye-catching, memorable, and tantalizing. Sometimes after someone sees a posted picture, they read the blog just to see what it might either have to say in relation to the picture's significance, or just because the picture has detained them long enough to get them interested in the blog.

Faithfully,

Douglas Castle

p.s. Oh, and by the way, a chunk of an article about pictures follows to further pound the point home. You'll want to read it.

In all social and business communications (teaching, arguing, selling...) pictures come first and explanations (in the form of text, prose, copy or scrolling script) come second. Picures are morre easily grasped and understood, as well as recalled, than are words.

People would rather go to the movie than to read through the book because it frees them from the "burden" of creating constructs (pictures) with their own imaginations. It's easier to remember any part of a movie (generally speaking) than any portion of a book -- with few exceptions.

Visual memory is processed, stored and recalled through a very different process than are words. We ultimately think in pictures, even if these pictures are formed in our own minds after having read or head words.

How many times have you heard someone ask "Do you SEE what I'm SAYING?" This is not an accident -- people believe what they see, and recall what they see, far more easily and accurately than they do groups of words.

When your third grade teacher told you to bring in visual aids when it was your turn to make a presentation regarding some assigned topic in front of the class, she (Ms. Schenendorf, in my case) did it because she intuitively understood that every presentation is made clearer and more memorable by the use of pictures; even if these pictures are collages, montages, word clusters, videos, charts and graphs.

Carrying it one step further, and I always do, words which are coupled with pictures ("A" is for "apple"), or words which are embedded into pictures (whether captioned, or with "thought" or "talk" balloons to illustrate dialogue) are better anchored in the subconscious mind.

It is easier to remember a line from a movie than it is to recite a brief stanza from a poem.

If you've ever had a nightmare, what do you recall first and longest after you've awakened? The dialogue, or the imagery?

I now rest my case. -- DC

---------------
The Future of Cloud Computing Reminds Me Of The Matrix
--especially after the recent failure at Amazon...

In the crucial business and social areas of communications and messaging, pictures (including collages, superimposed photos, illustrations with embedded wisdom) are often far more effective and powerful and conveying ideas, and for stimulating ready recall than plain copy, text or written words.

They are simply processed differently, recorded differently and stored differently in the mind. In fact, most of us think in pictures more than we think in words. When you awaken from a dream, do your memories of a dialogue linger, or do the visual situational aspects tend to stick more firmly in your mind? Think about that example once again...

Use pictures (visual imagery) as much as possible in order to make your message clear and memorable.

Please visit http://imagesbydouglascastle.blogspot.com/  and http://madmarketingtactics.blogspot.com/  to see precisely what I mean.

Thank you in advance for visiting.
